How to Find Your Perfect Wedding Dress

Planning a wedding is an exciting journey, and one of the most thrilling parts is finding your perfect wedding dress. As a wedding photographer, I've had the privilege of witnessing many brides walk down the aisle in truly stunning dresses. Here's a quick little guide to help you find the dress of your dreams.

Start Early and Do Your Research

When it comes to wedding dress shopping, starting early is key. Give yourself plenty of time to explore different styles and designers. Use resources like Pinterest, bridal magazines, and Instagram to gather inspiration. Create a mood board to visualize the types of dresses that catch your eye. (In my experience Pinterest really is the best for inspiration).

Consider Your Wedding Theme and Venue

Your wedding dress should complement the overall theme and venue of your wedding. Are you having a beach wedding, a rustic barn celebration, or do you want it in a glamorous ballroom? A flowing bohemian dress might be perfect for a beach wedding, while a classic ball gown could be ideal for a traditional church ceremony/wedding. So never forget about ‘’dressing for the occasion’’.

Set a Budget

Wedding dresses come in a wide range of prices, so it's essential to set a budget before you start shopping. Remember to factor in alterations, accessories, and any additional costs (they can become plentiful, and the ‘’stock’’ dress never fits on first, so the cost to make measurements/alterations are more or less guaranteed). Stick to your budget to avoid falling in love with a dress that's out of your price range.

Choose the Right Silhouette

The silhouette of your wedding dress will play a significant role in how it fits and flatters your body. Whether you prefer an A-line, mermaid, ball gown, or sheath, choose a silhouette that enhances your best features and makes you feel confident.

Don't Forget About Comfort

You'll be wearing your wedding dress for an entire day, so comfort is crucial. Ensure you can move, sit, and even dance comfortably in your chosen dress. Don't sacrifice comfort for style; you can have both!

Bring a Trusted Friend or Family Member

When you go wedding dress shopping, bring a trusted friend or family member who knows your style and can provide honest feedback. Having someone supportive by your side can make the experience much more enjoyable and way less stressful.

Trust Your Instincts

Ultimately, trust your instincts when choosing your wedding dress. If you find yourself tearing up or feeling an overwhelming sense of joy when you try on a particular gown, it's likely the one. Your perfect wedding dress is out there, waiting for you to say yes!

Remember: Take your time, enjoy the process, and you'll find the dress that makes you feel like the beautiful bride you are.
